"In a high-trust society, you don't need a lot of surveillance. The surveillance is even undermining the trust: it's punishing people who look suspicious, but do the right thing.
In a low-trust society, surveillance can be the better trade-off.
The US is currently making a transition from a relatively high-trust to a low-trust society, so the surveillance will increase."

This is awesome! 😱
I didn't know about the CSS `round` or `space` property for backgrounds!
Ideal if you want to avoid cropping the image!
Been awhile. Got about 50 things on my plate but I've learned A LOT more about Ruby over the last year or so. Really excited having just learned the basic ins and out of ActionCable. I'm def a hack at this programming thing, but I love the feeling of making something that others enjoy and that makes their lives easier.

Today we stopped charging for some six years of Web programming educational content. (Mostly #ruby.)
Linux (!) just joined Apple, Microsoft, and Google in adopting the code of conduct I created, Contributor Covenant.
Long story short, I can assure you that gcloud also works for your Heroku storage needs!
Note: also considered switched everything over to gcloud, but coudn't get their native libraries to work with some of my gems and I didn't wanna spend hours learning how to make it work so I just used the carrierwave extension...for now.
So: when I run "rails server" in my Heroku directory, it works but doesn't load my .env file--obviously. (There's probably some hack for this to workwith the following:) so I run "heroku local". But the console doesn't show any logs like usual when I access the app from another computer on the network. Sup with that?
In positive news live streaming mini_magick output to AWS/S3 is working great! 😍
Learning mini-magick via: https://www.sitepoint.com/image-processing-rails/ today. Fun Stuff!
Going to make a simple 熨斗 generator for the company page.
What makes #Mastodon so exciting is it’s not a single commercial service run by a corporation—it’s simply open source software using open protocols that anyone can install on their own server. Just like email isn’t owned by any one company, federated social networks allow online messaging and following/follower relationships using the beauty and power of the open web.
I talk about all this and much more in the Mastodon special of the my podcast! Listen here:

Some of the alternative interfaces for #Mastodon are pretty interesting. Check out these two:

If you're not enjoying the default site, maybe one of those will fit you better!
