Droppie [venera] 🐨♀🌈🐧🦘<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://firefish.social/users/9ekti81ff4" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>irfan</span></a></span> Ditto.</p><blockquote>I'm still bummed by this</blockquote><p>👍👌</p><p>Your OP shocked me, as i'd not known til then of this unpleasant news. I used <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=TeamViewer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TeamViewer</span></a> for many years, professionally &amp; privately, &amp; felt it a very useful tool. However several years ago i replaced it with <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=AnyDesk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AnyDesk</span></a> &amp; hadn't looked back. I use it from my primary desktop pc <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=ArchLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ArchLinux</span></a> <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=KDEPlasma" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KDEPlasma</span></a> to remotely maintain my Dad's windoze 10 monstrosity, + occasionally for some tasks i wish to perform on my <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=KDEPlasma" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KDEPlasma</span></a> laptop from my Arch pc.</p><p>In Arch ofc the pkg is available &amp; easily installable. That was not so for my lappy. Initially i had to kinda sorta use a "wrong" version d/l from AD for a <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=RHEL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RHEL</span></a> system, &amp; hope i would not break something. It worked, but always left me feeling vulnerable. One day i thought to check <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=Flathub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Flathub</span></a> &amp; found it there, so changed to that method, which til now was fine.</p><p>Every now &amp; then i aspire to replace it with some proper <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> pkg [yet not lose any functionality important to me]. A few times i have tried <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=KDE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KDE</span></a>'s <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=KRDC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KRDC</span></a> &amp; <a href="https://venera.social/search?tag=Krfb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Krfb</span></a>, but every time i fall at the first hurdle. I have no understanding at all of <u>how to actually establish the connection</u> between tower &amp; lappy. The instructions seem written by someone, for a target audience, where both parties <em>already</em> smugly know how to use the software &amp; decided to torment putative <em>new</em> users who <em>know nothing about networking</em>, by being deliberately opaque &amp; cryptic. Maybe, hopefully, this software works fabulously in practice, but that's useless for me unless i can actually create connections. In that sense both TV &amp; AD are light years ahead for non-network-specialist users.</p>
