The first clusters of negotiation on #Albania’s #EU #accession
are set to be formally opened on
15 October, according to a unanimous decision of Ambassadors of European Union member states

The next step is set to be taken by Albania in mid-October in the framework of the intergovernmental conference and the opening of “Cluster 1 – Fundamentals”.

This cluster includes several chapters
– Procurement, Statistics, Judiciary and Fundamental rights, Justice, Freedom and Security and Financial control.

(But there's a setback for North Macedonia, which once again fails to take a decisive step towards EU accession)

The decision about #EU #accession came at a crucial time for President Volodymyr #Zelensky of #Ukraine, who had just returned from a bruising visit to the #UnitedStates, where he pleaded for desperately needed money for his war effort that is being held up by political divisions in #Congress.

Erdogan Links Sweden's NATO Membership To Turkey's EU Accession

Turkish President Tayyip #Erdogan, in an unexpected move, said on July 10 that the #European #Union should open the way for Ankara's #accession to the bloc before Turkey's parliament approves #Sweden's bid to join the #NATO military alliance.

Turkey's bid to join the EU has been frozen for years after membership talks were launched in 2005 under Erdogan's first term as prime minister. The ties between Ankara and members of the bloc soured several years ago, especially after a 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkey, but have since largely improved.

The bloc depends on the help of NATO ally Ankara, particularly on #migration
