A trial of #Wrightbus hydrogen buses for Sizewell C workers has launched in #Suffolk, marking a step towards reducing construction emissions. If successful, Sizewell C could order up to 150 #buses, creating the UK's largest #hydrogen fleet. This initiative supports the region’s hydrogen #economy, creates #UK jobs, and reduces local transport impacts. Ryze Power supplies the green hydrogen, and a mobile refuelling system is also being tested. Sizewell C’s goal is to decarbonise its operations and accelerate the hydrogen transition. Wrightbus’s hydrogen buses, built in Northern #Ireland, contribute to UK manufacturing. The trial aims to encourage further hydrogen adoption across the region. If successful, it could help establish a broader hydrogen #transport network in the East of #England.

Good news, everyone*! If you want to burn those old-fashioned Go Cards**, you can from Monday, as Brisbane buses finally accept bank card contactless payments for everyone!***

It’s like it’s 2012 (when London did it), or 2019 (when Sydney did it), or some random time in the future (hello Melbourne)

* in Brisbane, which I appreciate is not everyone
** by which I mean “apply for a refund”, and don’t burn them, they’re probably toxic
*** except if you have a concessionary card, keep using that if you do

ABC News · Brisbane city council buses and metro to start smart ticketing from next weekBy Jack McKay

Back home.
The bus journey to meet Sacha at the gym was uneventful - both buses were on time. I don't understand why, but the new Electric (battery) buses in Leicester seem much more reliable than the smelly diesel buses - and give a nicer ride.

There had been a collision in the gym car park earlier, so part of the car park was closed which meant finding our car was a challenge.

We eat the petrol station meal deal at the allotment. Sacha pruned & trained one of the loganberry bushes, that I'd been ignoring, while I broke up clay lumps and raked the bed that I've been digging recently.

it was chilly but not too unpleasant. And, we got useful jobs done.

The West #Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has approved a £1.2bn budget for 2025/26, focusing on economic growth, housing, jobs, and #transport improvements. This includes £204m for jobs, skills, and apprenticeships, £67.7m for social and affordable housing, and £55.7m to support economic growth. A key element is £554.9m for transport, including £84.8m for the Black Country #Metro extension, £36m for zero-emission #buses, and £234.5m for local transport projects like #cycle schemes and highway maintenance. The budget also safeguards bus services, with £61.1m allocated for concessionary #travel. A focus on improving transport, particularly buses and sustainable travel, aims to better connect communities and reduce emissions.

LOWER HUTT AFFAIRS
MEETING OF BOROUGH
COUNCIL

The Public Works Department forwarded the revised draft of the proposed motor lorry #regulations. Councillor Hobbs considered that the fees for motor #buses were quite outrageous. They were out of all reason, and it was quite evident that the regulations were drawn with the idea of stopping bus competition with #trains.
The Mayor said that the regulations were drawn after consultation with the Mayors of cities owning trams, and personally he considered it right that tramway enterprises should be safeguarded.
In reference to this matter it was decided to fall into line with the request of the City Council…

2/n More unsolicited observations on #buses since #congestionpricing

1. Per article linked above, MTA express bus ridership is up 21%.
2. Our private Trailways bus from #UlsterCountyNY to #nyc was completely sold out *and* on-time Tuesday morning.
3. Boxcar, the free market solution to #NJTransit, is now working with a second charter operator. Guess they can't get enough buses.
4. #NYWaterway, another private operator, has supplemented its school bus fleet with large Volvo coaches.
