Isn’t it fascinating how humans have a natural talent for aiming and throwing? Of course, some people are better at it than others. I can sit here at my desk and effortlessly toss a piece of paper into my wastepaper basket—and I usually make it in. Did I play basketball, you ask? Well, I did as a child, but my skills were never refined enough to leave even the smallest mark on the sport. My granddaughter, on the other hand, plays on her college team as a three-point specialist. Just think about the incredible skills that takes—gauging distance and location, then applying just the right amount of force at the perfect angle to send the ball soaring through the hoop.

McKee, the garden was designed by landscape architect William Lyman Phillips, who integrated streams, ponds, and trails into the native tropical hammock. After a period of closure and land sales in 1976, the garden was revitalized and reopened in 2001. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized by the Garden Conservancy as a preservation project of national significance. ​ One of the garden's most celebrated features is its extensive waterlily collection, which includes over 100 varieties, some spanning more than three feet across. I used to use the K-word for this Crimson Flag Lily, now giving early winter colour to our #GayGarden.
S Africans will likely know what I’m talking about, & this plant originates in S Africa.
But I’ve gotten reluctant to use words that might offend others, because of their semantic history, words with racist history as the K-word has, or homophobic /transphobic history.
I cd stick to the botanical name, which I love: Schizostylis coccinea

Inside the Red Head's Head

Given that today is one day after having a covid vaccine booster shot and I am feeling sick and achy and awful all over, it should have been obvious that today would be the single busiest day at the grocery store that the human race has ever seen. I’m pretty sure I got the last open parking space in the entire strip mall lot. What a mess. My head is pounding now and my whole body hurts and waaaaaaah, waaaaaaah, waaaaaaah, I feel like such a great big middle aged baby.
