#Trump's tariff formula confounds the world, punishes the #poor
Ridiculed for trade #tariffs on frozen islands largely inhabited by penguins, Trump's formula for levies has a serious side: it is hitting some of the world's poorest nations hardest.
The math is simple: take #US goods #trade deficit w/a country, divide it by that country's exports to the US & turn it into a percentage; cut that figure in half to produce the US "reciprocal" tariff, w/a floor of 10%.

Disgusting: The majority of the nations listed for “reciprocal” #tariffs on the 8-pg document distributed to reporters by the #Trump admin are #poor, #developing economies. They include some of the world’s poorest nations -- #SouthSudan, #Burundi & the #CentralAfricanRepublic -- as well as countries in the throes of #war, notably #Sudan.

#LeeZeldin’s move effectively ends 3 decades of work at the #EPA to try to ease the #pollution that burdens #poor & #minority communities, which are frequently located near #highways, #PowerPlants, #industrial plants & other polluting facilities. Studies have shown that people who live in those #communities have higher rates of #asthma, #HeartDisease & other #health problems, compared w/the national average.
The #Trump admin intends to eliminate #EPA offices responsible for addressing the disproportionately high levels of #pollution facing #poor communities, acc/to a memo from #LeeZeldin, the agency administrator.
In the internal memo, viewed by NYT, Zeldin informed agency leaders that he was directing “the reorganization & elimination” of the offices of #EnvironmentalJustice at all 10 EPA regional offices as well as the one in Washington.

You get the impression that #poverty is made and continued by design in the #USA. And there is almost no incentive for the #billionaires to end poverty at all, although they could very easily by just stopping #taxfraud or collecting the taxes that are already due today. 
#Money flows to the super #rich (which pay less #taxes!) instead to the people in need.
The #AmericanDream is an illusion.
What a shit country. What a shit system.
