Awesome #HandsOff National Day of Protest in Portland, Oregon. It was clear from the overflowing Japanese American Memorial Plaza -- where we couldn't get anywhere near the speakers -- that the attendance far exceeded what they anticipated. The march was enthusiastic and energized. Great signs and great turn out. Excellent job, #Portland!

At a local café and the staff were talking in support about Hadachek v. Oregon and Intact Global's challenge to expand protection from child genital cutting to all children including preventing circumcision of boys and intersex surgeries.

People are talking in support of genital autonomy this is not a fringe issue, less than 1 in 10 children are genitally cut in Oregon, and Oregonians are happy to fight for the rights of all children!

Exerpt from my speech:
"I’ve been speaking up against child genital cutting for almost a decade with limited success until I moved here. Portland, Oregon really became my home because we also talk to neighbors here, and we know them. We know that they’re exceptionally diverse, and I believe we’re proud to fight for human rights because we know that. [Pause]
Many people assume that I was not affected by childhood genital cutting, but childhood genital cutting, including circumcision, affects more than just boys and men."

Also on Mississippi Ave. in Portland is a quirky little store called Paxton Gate. Google Maps describes it as a "Boutique shop specializing in taxidermy, fossils, framed insects, science kits, jewelry & plants." The shop claims that all taxidermy is "ethically sourced".
