#mattermost ist auch so ein schmerzhaftes Beispiel. Enthusiasten wie @xldrkp loten alle Möglichkeiten aus, auch für die Lehre. #Slack User finden Mattermost nicht adäquat und werben für die Slack-Channels (bis sich die Slack-Konditionen ändern). Der Rest kennt und will #teams.
Mattermost ändert die Konditionen und will Geld sehen. Wahrscheinlich waren alternative Finanzierungsmodelle nicht möglich.
Wir sehen uns bei Teams. (Lizenz- und Preisentwicklung offen)

I moved our weekly virtual drinks party from Skype to Jitsi a few weeks ago, after Microsoft fumbled the transition from Skype to #Teams and one of us couldn't join. I'm really impressed by the way Jitsi has come on since I last tried it in 2020: not only is the connection clear and stable, but #Jitsi makes better use of our inadequate bandwidth than #Skype ever did.

"Something went wrong. Let's try again." is what Microsoft Teams tells me most times I try to use its built-in calendar to join a meeting.

And by trying to follow the link in the calendar invitation instead, it now tells me to "You don’t have the permission to change the meeting settings.”

Restarting Teams fixes the problem, but every interaction I have with Teams is marinated in this kind of bug-ridden friction.

I turn on my PC.

The local wildlife are immediately sterilised by the untreated waste of my four un-shielded nuclear reactors, operating far beyond criticality.

The sound of 10,000 cooling fans deafens the city's morning traffic as my warehouse of 500 parallelised AMD EPYC CPUs stolen from OpenAI burst into life, forming the equivalent processing power of 2019 in one room.

Nearby, my cluster of Nvidia 6090 Test Cards begins to warp the local time continuum as they calculate answers man was never meant to know.


Very gently, I open Microsoft Teams.

Instantly, the already deafening noise of fans increases to a murderous wail as they try to keep my equipment at operating temperatures. A nuclear reactors' fusion catches up with its cooling and explodes destroying the lives of millions. The floor begins to melt away as my processors overclocked ten-fold reach critical mass and descend directly into hell. My Nvidia cluster collapses into a singularity and begins to devour the planet.

Quickly now, I open a text chat, it's a bit laggy.

The sheer struggle of loading some text destroys the remaining systems. Me and my equipment are deleted from reality by an unknown overseer.

Humanity is not ready for instant messaging.

Irming.com · Pros and Cons Are InseparableWhile my perception of my own knowledge path has been something like “I know nothing” -> “I know everything” -> “I know nothing”, engineers at any level can become overly convinced that their own approach is the correct one. A junior engineer straight out of school may be overly biased toward approaches taught there, which may or may not be effective in, for instance, a heavily product- and market-driven environment. Someone with a few years of experience may, due to their own definition of what success looks like, believe they have arrived and there’s not much more to learn. (This was me during the dot-com bubble.) A senior engineer with a decade or more of either going deep or wide can become too set in their ways and reluctant to incorporate different thinking, like single-brain groupthink. The rock star engineer, if you subscribe to such a thing, may well have developed an ego matching the size and approach attributes of a tropical island dictatorship.
