EVERY WINTER PRECIPITATION (AND HAIL!):

The past several days have been a smorgasbord of #winter #precipitation falling across the #Northland. That included #snow, #sleet, and #freezingrain.

There was even #hail with a couple #thunderstorms Friday afternoon, including the first #severe thunderstorm warnings for 2025!

#Snowfall is still occurring in some parts this afternoon. That will move out by tonight.

A list of the largest hailstones that fell across the Northland on March 28, 2025, measured by their diameter. They were 1.25-inches in South Range, Wisconsin, 1-inch in Wrenshall, Minnesota, 0.88-inches in Oliver, Wisconsin, 0.75-inches in Tamarack, Minnesota and Washburn, Wisconsin, and 0.70-inches in Superior, Wisconsin.

Freezing rain totals measured in the Northland since March 28, 2025 through March 30, 2025 include 0.33-inches in Wales, Minnesota, 0.25-inches in Hibbing, Minnesota, 0.20-inches in Silver Bay, Wisconsin, 0.14-inches in Ashland, Wisconsin, 0.13-inches in the Duluth, Minnesota area, and 0.13-inches in Herbster, Wisconsin.

The highest snowfall totals reported to the National Weather Service offices in Duluth, Minnesota and Marquette, Michigan as of 3 p.m. (Central Daylight Time) on March 30, 2025 include 8-inches at Ironwood, Michigan, 6.2-inches in Bergland, Michigan, 5.8-inches Cedar, Wisconsin, 5.3-inches in Ashland, Wisconsin, 5.1-inches in Ontonagon, Michigan, 5-inches in Moquah, Wisconsin, and 4.8-inches in Namekagon, Wisconsin.

The satellite and radar over the Northland at 3:45 p.m. on March 30, 2025, shows snow showers continues over northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula as it moves to the east. Cloud cover persists over the Minnesota region, with some clearing taking place over parts of Itasca and Koochiching counties.

NORTHLAND FORECAST FOR MARCH 19, 2025:

Rain and snow showers will slowly increase across the southern half of the Northland Tuesday night, becoming all snow by sunrise. Winds will become breezy with low temperatures in the upper teens and 20s.

Snow showers will be likely over northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula regions of the Northland Wednesday, with snowfall totals increasing as one travels east across this area. The rest of the area will be under mostly cloudy skies. Winds become strong with gusts over 30 mph as temperatures reach the 30s and low 40s for highs.

Thanks to more #cloud cover and a #breezy northwest wind, #temperatures are not as #warm as earlier this week.

A heads up that more #snow #showers will be passing through tonight and Friday. The #Arrowhead region will be hit hardest.

The satellite and radar over the Northland at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, shows clear skies over the Iron Range, I-35 corridor and the western half of northwest Wisconsin. Cloud cover is taking place across the rest of the area. Looking northwest toward Winnipeg, and the next strong clipper system can be seen with its snow showers.

Temperatures in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on February 27, 2025, range from 27 to 43 degrees Fahrenheit. They warm as one travels from northeast to southwest across the region.

Wind speeds in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on February 27, 2025, range from 6 to 16 mph. Wind direction is primarily from the northwest and north.

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for Cook and northern Lake counties from 9 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025, through 12 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025. (Central Standard Time). This area is likely to see at least 4 inches of new snowfall from a clipper system, with some spots receiving up to 9 inches by Friday afternoon.

A cold front passes through the Northland Monday night, providing a few flurries and calming winds. Temperatures will cool back to the 20s for lows.

A weak high-pressure system will keep the Northland dry Tuesday, but skies will remain mostly cloudy with light winds. Temperatures will remain above freezing for highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.

What a difference the weekend makes. We have enjoyed plenty of #sunshine and above #freezing #temperatures for highs.

A #clipper system is moving into the region, so expect some mixed #precipitation in spots tonight and Monday.

The satellite and radar over the Northland at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2025, shows some clear skies over most of the eastern half of the region, with increased cloud cover as one moves west across the region. Some light mixed precipitation is being picked up by the radar in southeast Manitoba and northwest Minnesota.

Temperatures in the Northland just before 2 p.m. on February 23, 2025, range from 35 to 43 degrees Fahrenheit.

When compared to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, temperatures in the Northland at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2025 range from no change to 11-degrees Fahrenheit warmer.

#COLD #WEATHER #ADVISORY EXPANDED:

The arctic #chill in the air over the #Northland will be felt by a good number of us Tuesday night.

#Wind chills of -35° to -40° are looking likely on the #Minnesota side of the region.

Dress #warm when heading out tomorrow morning!

The Cold Weather Advisory in the Northland has been expanded to cover all of Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis counties. From now until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, wind chill readings will drop at times to a range of -35° to -40° Fahrenheit. Frostbite can form on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes under these conditions.
