After some years off from conferences due to phases of life, #RailsConf was fantastic and energizing. There’s something so different about meeting in person and riffing with others on a bunch of interesting ideas.
While exhausting in the moment, it’s incredibly recharging in the long run, and it’s difficult to not be excited about the people in the Ruby community and the prospects for Ruby and Rails at large.
With @rubycentral, it feels like the community is in great hands.
@garrettdimon glad to hear that! In my bubble it appeared as if there were no prospects for Rails or especially Ruby anymore outside of legacy apps that must keep running. Overall I’m very interested about what happens to tech communities once the hype cycle moves on from their thing. Ruby at least has some big players heavily invested in it (unlike, say, Clojure or Elm).
@temochka Lots of stories about teams/companies who went the JS route switching to Rails and being incredibly happy they did.
Also, between performance improvements, the welcoming nature of the community, and the general levels of enthusiasm, it may not be talked about as much as the shiny new things, but it's definitely not wasting away/atrophying.
@garrettdimon riffing you say?
