Today in Labor History March 23, 1988: Angolan and Cuban forces defeated South Africa in the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale. The battle started in August, 1987. In addition to Cubans, volunteers from the USSR, Vietnam, the African National Congress and SWAPO joined the People’s Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA) in the Angolan Civil War. It was the largest battle in Africa since World War II. Several thousand died on both sides, including citizens of South Africa, Cuba, and the USSR

I grew up in #Newcastle. It had so much promise. But then, post 94, both the ANC government's ruining of the macro environment as well as the local corrupt #ANC government basically ruining the local business environment, that place is now toast. The munic also owe Eskom a few billion, so the lights are literally going to go out. Pity for my family still there.

Da wir heutzutage nur noch Überschriften und maximal den Teaser-Text lesen, hier eine Klarstellung:

**ANC-Kopfhörer machen NICHT das Gehör kaputt!**

Aber: Wer sehr viel, sehr lange die Kopfhörer auf dem Kopf mit eingeschalteter Geräuschunterdrückung (ANC) nutzt, kann Probleme bei normalen Gesprächen in lauteren Umgebungen bekommen. "Schuld" daran hat unser selektives Gehör. Auch in einer lauten Umgebung können wir ein Gespräch verfolgen, weil wir uns auf das Gespräch konzentrieren und unser Gehirn die laute Umgebung "ausblendet".

ANC blendet aber ohne zutun unseres Gehirns laute Geräusche aus. Und wenn wir ANC Kopfhörer mehr oder weniger pausenlos benutzen "verlernt" unser Gehirn, wie man Gespräche selektiert. Mit dem Effekt, dass wir Gespräche akustisch nicht mehr vestehen, obwohl unser Gehör selbst keinerlei Beeinträchtigung hat.

Allerdings gibt es für diese These noch keine schlüssigen Beweise (sprich: Studien), nur Anhaltspunkte und Hinweise.

Every year the President promises change, but the reality for the poor is worse than ever. #SouthAfrica is still drowning in #poverty, #inequality, and violence, while the #ANC does nothing to fix the crisis.

Politicians blame immigrants, criminalize poverty, and ignore the real issues. If the government cared, they'd push for land reform and a basic income. Instead, the system keeps failing the people.

Habt ihr Empfehlungen für gute #Headset |s für verschnatterte Umgebungen, in denen alles kreuz und quer quatscht? Die einfachen #Jabra Evolve 75 haben leider eine Sollbruchstille an der USB-Ladebuchse und das #ANC ist auch eher mittelmäßig.

Meine Lösung mit Gaffer-Tape auf den Mündern von diversen Teammitgliedern wurde als "grausam", "unmenschlich" und "mit der Corperate Identity nicht vereinbar" abgelehnt.
