Teacups. Tiny monsters. Enjoying a peaceful moment to themselves. Humans aren't the only ones who enjoy a spot of tea now and again. Little monsters have been know to slip quietly into kitchens when no one is around and sneak a sip of two of freshly brewed sweetness. This sleepy creature drank a bit too much sweet jasmine tea and found it hard to stay awake. Shhhhhh...

FACES. We all have them. They fascinate me. Expressions in particular - from subtle to extreme.
OLD PAPER. These too share qualities of human expression. From long ago handwritten notes, aged newspapers and maps to worn paper stained with time. In this series of prints, I combine them to create whimsical "stories" about the nature of being human.

I've finished: The Simoqin Prophecies by Samit Basu

Self-aware and breaking the fourth wall, The Simoqin Prophecies makes fun of classic tropes from myth, fairy tale and fantasy. But it is not trying to be funny, it is deadly serious about its own high fantasy world.

While it is not perfect in all it's choices, as an experienced fantasy reader I enjoyed the references to classic tropes and their deconstruction. Satire can be better when it's not trying too hard to make you laugh.

I'm glad I found it through a Story Graph reading challenge prompt. Sometimes you find a book that was written for you 20 years after it was published and wonder where it's been all these years.

I love reading challenges with prompts that specify a type of book and let you choose the book you'll read for that prompt. You can also use these prompts to find novels other members think fit a prompt you like. As another day ends and darkness falls,
worries begin to grow. The monsters realize they
are now far away from their homes and entering
a world that no one has ever been before.

Anxious whispers and tearful sobs burst out.
"Beware! Beware! one monster pleads.
There is danger ahead!" But no one has stopped
for sleep this night. The leaders keep them
marching, marching, towards a distant light.
