Eh. 5 terabytes.. That's prolly good but idk anymore
@arstechnica Very nice, but we, the free software community, don't trade freedom for convenience
#GNU #FreeSoftware #UserFreedom
@kirschner @fsf yeah, it's sad thay most people call it "OpenSource". OSI defines it as a development method, but actually, the end users doesn't care how the programmers created that software. End users want it to be useful, easy to use, convenient. We, free software community, also care whether a program is free or not. Personally I think OSS is good, but not good enought. I got into free software via OSS tho, my path was in brief
privacy - > OSS - > GNU/Linux - > Free software
#GNU
@Citizenkahn #AGPL isn't a n open source license - it's a free software license. And it's not toxic, it protects user freedom with copyleft
Nonfree software developers use copyright to deny #UserFreedom, we free software developers use copyright to protect users' freedom. And that's why we reverse the name, from copyright to copyleft
Why #GPL? "Using the #GNU GPL will require that all the released improved versions be free software. This means you can avoid the risk of having to compete with a proprietary modified version of your own work." More at https://u.fsf.org/3kr
I love my tacky #BodhiLinux laptop setup. <3 #Moksha is one of my guilty pleasure #desktop environments, and BlingBling is my favourite theme.
Alongside one of my dream cars, a #Volvo #V70.
What you can't see: all the satisfying animations. Every gold surface has a little bling reflection going over it when moused over. It's so silly.
So, I bought an SSD recently and stuff seems to be copied over with much more fidelity, not to mention at much higher speed!

My experience with #FlashDrives recently has been mixed. I have no problem in encrypting them with #LUKS, using #cryptsetup or with formatting a partition with #Btrfs, for instance, using #gparted and doing other tinkering with #Gnome #disks. But the problem has been with the actual drives themselves. The cheaper ones seem to have quite a few bad sectors, etc. and so they’re not really reliable for medium term storage.

Hey smart people of the Internet. It seems like things have changed (for the worse) in newer #Python. I am trying to install #wxPython like I always have been doing, per https://wxpython.org/pages/downloads/
pip install -U -f https://extras.wxpython.org/wxPython4/extras/linux/gtk3/ubuntu-24.04 wxPython
And it is suddenly yelling at me to not install the exact way I have been installing this for years and years. What is the new cool hip way they want me to do this? Preferably uncomplicated. #ubuntu #gnu #linux #programming
I'm running the @gnome shell desktop for the first time in a long time, I absolutely see the appeal now. When it came out originally I was not at all on board, I get it now. Little touches like syncing my Google calendar are nice to have.
Where we disagree is still the desktop icon situation. Thankfully there's an extension for that, I think for all the disagreements Canonical does have some nice ideas.
@bert_hubert Is this the "service as a software substitute" argument?
«Services are fundamentally different from programs, and the ethical issues that services raise are fundamentally different from the issues that programs raise. To avoid confusion, we avoid describing a service as “free” or “proprietary.”»
«Usually one SaaSS site does not substitute for another, so if users become unhappy with one dis-service provider it is no easy matter to switch to another.»
