For a case study in how conservative political operatives have weaponized voter suppression to their electoral advantage, take the "Election Integrity Network", or EIN.

EIN is an arm of the State Policy Network and the Conservative Partnership Institute, or CPI,
which claims to want to “make it harder to cheat” at the ballot box.

In reality, EIN is an organized network of voter suppression activists and conspiracy theorists who seek to surgically, meticulously, and cunningly dismantle the electoral process.

Led by former Trump lawyer and vocal election conspiracy theorist #Cleta #Mitchell, the EIN recruits activists at the state level and trains them to target the registrations of potentially left-leaning voters in an effort to tilt the balance of the electorate toward conservative-leaning voters.

If Mitchell isn’t exactly a household name, that’s because her network conducts most of its activities behind the scenes, unlike its CPI contemporaries such as the "Center for Renewing America" and "America First Legal".

To accomplish its mission, EIN relies on claims of widespread voter fraud, a phantasmal canard that has been roundly debunked.

While there are some federal policies that EIN opposes, such as the popular pro-democracy For the People Act,
it focuses its work on the state level, collaborating with friendly state legislators, conducting robust opposition research, and coordinating messaging campaigns to undermine public trust in the integrity of elections.

EIN has chapters across the country that are working tirelessly to alter Americans’ perception of the vote.

The group aims to convince the public that elections are not secure (they are),
that there is widespread voter fraud (there is not),
and that only certain groups of people should vote.

What’s most terrifying is that they are finding some success...

The New Republic · The Shadowy Right-Wing Group That’s Suppressing the 2024 VoteCleta Mitchell sits atop a well-funded effort to purge voter rolls, muddy the election certification process, and promote sketchy voter registration software.

Right-Wing Activists Pushed False Claims About Election Fraud.

-- Now They’re Recruiting Poll Workers in Swing States.

The Republican and Democratic parties have historically recruited poll workers,
and almost every state legally requires some amount of partisan balance.

Ahead of 2024, Republicans have accused officials in five Michigan and Wisconsin cities of unfairly overlooking their nominees and overstaffing polling places with Democrats.

The challenges in Flint, Michigan, and Madison, Wisconsin, were dismissed (one by a court, the other by the Wisconsin Elections Commission),
and Republican applicants in some places have since filed the required paperwork and signed up; other challenges are ongoing.

⚠️What’s newer is groups outside the parties making concerted efforts to recruit poll workers themselves.

The Election Integrity Network, founded by #Cleta #Mitchell, a former lawyer for ex-President Donald Trump, began enlisting poll workers during the 2022 midterms.

Now, more groups have joined it.

💥These include True the Vote, whose claims formed the basis of the widely debunked and eventually retracted film “2000 Mules,” which claimed to show election fraud,

💥and The Lion of Judah, a group aspiring to be the “Christian version of the NRA” that is traveling to swing states with #Lance #Wallnau to recruit conservative Christian poll workers.

Late last month, Trump’s vice presidential nominee, JD #Vance, lent Wallnau’s efforts credibility by appearing at a tour stop in Pennsylvania.

It is unknown how many poll workers these groups have recruited, in part because they aren’t saying and in part because election offices don’t ask people about their motivation.

Georgia’s GOP-controlled #State #Election #Board is poised to adopt a rule on Monday that would give county election board members
💥 an additional avenue to delay certification of election results, 💥potentially allowing them to throw the state’s vote count into chaos this fall.

A former Fulton County election official who submitted an initial draft of the rule told ProPublica that she had done so at the behest of a regional leader of a right-wing organization involved in challenging the legitimacy of American election systems. That organization, the 💥"Election Integrity Network", is led by #Cleta #Mitchell, 💥who helped orchestrate attempts to overturn the 2020 election
and spoke on the call in which former President Donald Trump demanded that Georgia’s secretary of state “find” him 11,780 votes to undo Joe Biden’s victory.

The Election Integrity Network’s role in bringing forward the proposed rule has not been previously reported.

The State Election Board’s Monday meeting comes on the heels of a vote less than two weeks before that empowered county election board members to conduct “reasonable inquiry” into allegations of voting irregularities.

That rule did not set deadlines for how long such inquiries might last or describe what they might entail,
and critics worried that this omission could cause Georgia to miss the Dec. 11 deadline for sending its certified presidential election results to the federal government.

ProPublicaElection Deniers Secretly Pushed Rule That Would Make It Easier to Delay Certification of Georgia’s Election ResultsOn Monday, the GOP-controlled State Election Board is poised to adopt the rule, which would potentially allow county officials, including one who secretly backed the rule, to throw the election results of the swing state into chaos this fall.

'Disrupt the process':

Trump's Jan. 6-inspired plan to undermine election revealed

Donald Trump reportedly has a plan to undermine and challenge the 2024 presidential election,

and it involves many of the same people who participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection attempt.

The New York Times reported on the plans on Saturday, even noting that the group spearheading #Project2025, the 🔸Heritage Foundation🔸, is providing support for the GOP's efforts.

💥The Republican Party and its conservative allies are engaged in an unprecedented legal campaign targeting the American voting system. 💥

Their wide-ranging and methodical effort is laying the groundwork to contest an election that they argue,
falsely, is already being rigged against former President Donald J. Trump," the Times reported over the weekend.

"The campaign involves a powerful network of Republican lawyers and activist groups,
working loosely in concert with the Republican National Committee.

Many of the key players were active in Mr. Trump’s attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election."

The report suggests that, "unlike the chaotic and improvised challenge four years ago, the new drive includes a systematic search for any vulnerability in the nation’s patchwork election system."

"Mr. Trump’s allies have followed a two-pronged approach:
restricting voting for partisan advantage ahead of Election Day
and short-circuiting the process of ratifying the winner afterward, if Mr. Trump loses,"

it states. " The latter strategy involves an ambitious
— and legally dubious
— attempt to reimagine decades of settled law dictating how results are officially certified in the weeks before the transfer of power."

The report goes on to state that "Democrats, civil rights lawyers and even some Republicans say that the threat is clear:
Even if the cases fail, Mr. Trump’s allies are building excuses to dispute the results, while trying to empower thousands of local election officials to disrupt the process."
"Already, election board members in several states have moved to block certification of primary election tallies, including in a major swing county in Nevada last week," according to the report.

"#Cleta #Mitchell, a Republican lawyer who was part of Mr. Trump’s push to overturn his loss in Georgia now runs the
🔸"Election Integrity Network", 🔸
a group that is advising activists on how to challenge voters’ eligibility.
The 🔸Heritage Foundation🔸 has provided institutional support and planning.
Last month, the group war-gamed exercises exploring scenarios in a disputed election."

Raw Story - Celebrating 20 Years of Independent Journalism · 'Disrupt the process': Trump's Jan. 6-inspired plan to undermine election revealedBy David McAfee

Year in and year out, #Christian #nationalists strategize and organize via a seemingly never-ending stream of
conferences, trainings, and other offerings conducted or provided by influential Christian political nonprofits such as:

♦️Turning Point USA (TPUSA), an extremist student group co-founded by Charlie #Kirk and Bill #Montgomery, who died of COVID-19 complications. TPUSA’s specialty is training students to harass “liberal” professors and public school boards. It partners with far right propagandist Jack Posobiec, who is infamous for his viral propaganda campaigns, including the “groomers” campaign launched against Disney after it withdrew support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.  Kirk hopes to open his own network of private Christian academies across the country.

♦️Wallbuilders, a nonprofit founded by pseudo-historian David #Barton, a leading opponentof the separation between church and state. Barton–who offers “biblical citizenship training” with ♦️Patriot Academy founder Rick #Green–also promotes the militant “black robe regiment” movement and wrote a book about it.

♦️United in Purpose (UIP), a Christian data targeting firm founded by convicted embezzler Bill #Dallas. UIP’s board has included David Barton and former congressman Bob #McEwen. UIP was involved in a massive voter data breach in 2015, as we previously reported. In or around 2020, UIP formed a group called♦️ Ziklag, which pairs wealthy Christian donors with Christian political projects and organizations. UIP also launched a website called EveryLegalVote.com, which promoted “Stop the Steal” rallies and related “action items,” although UIP’s name was removed from the website soon after it launched. (Image via @visionsurreal.)

♦️Truth and Liberty Coalition, which focuses on taking over public school boards in Colorado and beyond. The nonprofit is led by Andrew #Wommack who owns the Charis Bible College franchise and has said that members of the LGBTQ community should wear warning labels on their foreheads. Truth and Liberty’s board of directors includes Wallbuilders founder David Barton and NAR leader Lance #Wallnau, who has said that we must “destroy the public education system before it destroys America,” as reported in Elle Hardy’s book 🔹Beyond Belief: How Pentecostal Christianity is Taking Over the World. 🔹Truth and Liberty’s website includes a list of “influencers” that includes Rep. Lauren #Boebert (R-CO).
Truth and Liberty has worked with John #Guandolo of Understanding the Threat. Guandolo is a disgraced former FBI agent and anti-Muslim activist.  As first reported by Right Wing Watch, Guandalo “has begun offering training sessions for right-wing citizens on how to take over their towns, arrest their mayors, and destroy the lives of anyone who objects by publicly humiliating them, getting them fired…, and forcing them to move.”

♦️Patriot Academy founded by Rick #Green. The organization partners with David Barton (of Wallbuilders) in providing “biblical citizenship training.”

♦️The Oak Initiative founded by Rick #Joyner who advocated a military coup against Obama in 2013 or 2014. Rep. Louie #Gohmert (R-TX) attended one of their summits virtually in 2015. NAR leaders Lance Wallnau and Cindy Jacobs are on the board.

♦️The Council for National Policy, a secretive umbrella and strategy group for billionaires and the leaders of most prominent Christian Right organizations. Steve #Bannon, KellyAnne #Conway, Ali #Alexander, Charlie #Kirk, Ginni #Thomas, Cleta #Mitchell, Bill #Dallas, Tony #Perkins, and Ralph #Reed have all been members. Michael #Flynn has been involved with them too.

♦️The Family Research Council founded by Tony #Perkins, which hosts the influential 🔸Pray Vote Stand Summit 🔸(previously the Values Voter Summit) and a pastors roundtable called 🔸“Watchmen on the Wall.”

♦️The Faith and Freedom Coalition (FFC) founded by Ralph #Reed. FFC’s website says that FFC knocked on more than 8 million doors before the midterm election and held its annual 🔸Road to Majority Policy🔸 conference in June this year. Its website says the conference “equips attendees with the knowledge and connections they need to drive engagement and voter turnout. The June 2022 gathering accelerated conservatives further down the road to majority ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.”

♦️The Family Leader, which held a Family Leadership summit in July this year. Its president and CEO is Bob Vander #Plaats. Its website called its annual summit the “Midwest’s biggest gathering of Christians seeking cultural transformation in the family, church, government and more.”

♦️Focus on the Family, the
♦️Family Institute, and the
♦️Dobson Policy Center founded by James #Dobson. Focus on the Family has offices and partnerships around the world. Focus on the Family and Family Research Center helped craft and promote the bill that recently made Arkansas the first state to ban gender-affirming care for minors,

Far-right US groups coalescing to stoke unfounded fears of non-citizens voting

Cleta Mitchell, an attorney who helped Donald Trump in his attempts to overturn the 2020 election,
has joined forces with far-right anti-immigrant groups to pour resources into
stoking unfounded fears of non-US citizens voting in federal elections.

Launched by powerful figures on the right, the effort includes members of Trump’s inner circle,
rightwing nativist groups that promote restricting legal immigration
and election-denying activists like #Mitchell.

Leaders of some of the prominent groups have become active on Capitol Hill,
even appearing alongside the Republican House speaker, Mike #Johnson,
to introduce a bill requiring people to provide proof of citizenship to register to vote.

The effort to crack down on non-citizen voting comes as the racist “great replacement” conspiracy theory,
which alleges a covert plot to replace white populations with immigrants of color,
has entered the mainstream.

Figures such as Tucker #Carlson, a former Fox News anchor and one of the theory’s most visible promoters,
frequently warn that high levels of immigration will help Democrats win elections.

At the heart of the push is
🔸Only Citizens Vote Coalition🔸, a group of more than 70 organizations, according to its website,
that claims to promote “citizen voting” and hosts webinars for grassroots activists.

Mitchell, who announced the group’s formation on 8 May, is among its founding members.

Affiliates of 🔸Conservative Partnership Institute🔸 (CPI),
the conservative power-building group that underwrites Mitchell’s election activism,
form key roles in the coalition, including former Trump adviser Stephen #Miller’s 🔸America First Legal Action.🔸

The hardline anti-immigration group 🔸Federation for American Immigration Reform, 🔸
which the racial justice organization Southern Poverty Law Center has designated a hate group, is also enrolled.

And one of the coalition’s steering groups
– the recently formed
🔸 Immigration Accountability Project, 🔸with leaders from organizations in Mitchell’s network as well as the anti-immigration movement
– illustrates the increasingly close relationship between election deniers and the nativist far right.

Some cities like San Francisco and DC allow non-US citizens to vote in hyper-local elections.
But evidence suggests that non-citizens, who are already prohibited from voting in federal elections and could face felony charges and deportation for doing so, rarely vote in federal elections.

That has not stopped groups like Immigration Accountability Project and Only Citizens Vote Coalition, which claims that “millions of illegal aliens and noncitizens may be able to vote in November”, from elevating the issue.

Chris #Chmielenski, president of Immigration Accountability Project, acknowledged in an interview that there is little evidence to suggest non-citizens vote with any regularity in US elections
– but maintained that the possibility was enough to warrant concern.

The Conservative Partnership Institute,
a nonprofit whose funding skyrocketed after it became a nerve center for President Donald J. Trump’s allies in Washington,
has paid at least $3.2 million since the start of 2021 to corporations led by its own leaders or their relatives, records show.

In its most recent tax filings, the nonprofit’s three highest-paid contractors were all connected to insiders.

One was led by the institute’s president, #Edward #Corrigan,
and another by its chief operating officer.
At a third contractor, the board members included the group’s senior legal fellow #Cleta #Mitchell, a lawyer who supported Mr. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The Conservative Partnership Institute applied to the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt nonprofit, and the agency approved.
That means donations to the group are tax deductible, like gifts to a food bank or the American Red Cross.
It also means that, 🔸by law, its money must serve the public good rather than private interests.🔸
The nonprofit has pushed those limits by entwining itself with only one faction of American politics.
It pays high salaries to some of Mr. Trump’s former officials, hosts retreats for Republican lawmakers at a rural compound and funds efforts to vet people and ideas for a second Trump term.

#DELAY IS CRITICAL TO EVERY PART of the Trump strategy if Biden wins in November
—delay verifying ballots,
delay with recounts,
delay with audits.

Delay sows doubt.

Piling up #lawsuits does too, even if they are later thrown out.

The RNC has filed lawsuits in Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and even Mississippi.

Kari Lake filed a case with the Supreme Court claiming electronic voting machines in Maricopa County are “susceptible to hacking.”

She wants the Court to outlaw electronic voting.

No matter the outcome of the case, Lake will, no doubt, blame these machines should she
—or Trump—lose their elections in Arizona.

Layered over this volatile scenario is the #threat of #violence, whether Trump explicitly encourages it at the time or not.

His torrent of #lies and the #cowardice of elected Republicans who knowingly echo his lies have created a permanent threat to election workers.

Trump supporters are primed for #battle
—metaphoric and physical.

A spokeswoman for Trump recently claimed that the party will be sending “#soldiers” to monitor voting.

Last week, Judge Michael Luttig remarked about the unprecedented
threat Trump presents to our judiciary and to democracy,
following Trump’s #attacks on the daughter of the judge who will preside over his hush money case.

“Never in history has any person leveled such attacks and been met with such #passivity, #acquiescence, and #submissiveness by the nation,” Luttig wrote.

The same can be said for the nation’s collective reaction to Trump’s plans to steal the 2024 election.

Rich Lowry wrote last month in a National Review column titled
“How Exactly Would Donald Trump End American Democracy?”
that “we can stipulate that if Trump loses in November 👉he won’t concede the election and, in all likelihood, will engage in the same kind of pressure campaign to change the results as he did in 2020.”

What Trump has planned for November and December, if he doesn’t win, is not a “pressure campaign.” It’s another #coup.

#RNC#Christina#Bobb

The #RNC is staffing up with 🥺Big Liars, like #Christina #Bobb as senior counsel for “election integrity,”
and has adopted a new #litmus #test: Prospective RNC employees are reportedly being asked 🔸if the 2020 election was stolen. 🔸

Trump is also engaging #Cleta #Mitchell, who participated in the 2020 coup effort, and was on the infamous call when he asked Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to 🔸“find” enough votes for him to overcome Biden’s tally 🔸in the Peach State.

Mitchell, among others, is working on a Trump-directed effort to 💥convince states to quit the "Electronic Registration Information Center" ( #ERIC ), 💥which helps identify unregistered voters and registration irregularities.

👉Conspiracy theories on the right have proliferated regarding ERIC, and as some Republican states have dropped it, the potential for problems has grown, according to election experts interviewed by Rolling Stone.

🔥The new software Trump allies are using instead relies on “totally unreliable” data, which could lead to more challenges to the votes of registered and eligible voters, 🔥overwhelming election officials, creating delays, and giving candidates who lost “more time and more space to create false narratives about an election being stolen,” according to David Becker, one of ERIC’s founders.
