In our opinion, all #PeopleWhoBike are “#cyclists.”
Good article, though we’d have edited out “—who’s not a cyclist—.” That was jarring, at odds with rest of piece. @Bicycling @bicycling-magazine-Bicycling

Who we met out biking this eve:
Eric (pictured), previously from Southern California and now a resident of Monterey.
And Vladimir, a Canadian resident who is a native of Ukraine.
Heartwarming visits with both!
ICYMI, see others we’ve met biking this winter, and get some cycling news and tips: https://bikemonterey.org/bike-buzz-winter-2025.html
Among updates last night to Winter Bike Buzz are photos of people we met on the coastal trail February 16: Wyatt, Adalina, Chris, and more. https://bikemonterey.org/bike-buzz-winter-2025.html
Pictured here is Wyatt, an employee of California State Parks, Monterey. Wyatt rides a Class 2 e-bike and is a great role model for sharing the trail courteously and safely with other people who bike, walk, skate, and scoot.
Carol and Jaime live in San Jose, California where they are active members of Silicon Valley Rotary. We met them while walking the trails at a Asilomar State Beach today. Jaime, a California resident for over 30 years, is a native of Colombia. They met through their shared dedication to service to others, via Rotary.

Happy birthday to Liz, biking 30 miles to celebrate their 30th birthday today!
Liz and their friend Lizzy had biked from Marina, California to another #Monterey Peninsula city, #Pacific Grove, when we met them while we were walking at Asilomar State Beach. We
sang Liz a favorite birthday song traditional in many #Waldorf schools.

When you pause to chat with people who bike, you see and learn things you miss when someone is in a car.
For starters, we learned that this gentleman–who took off his sunglasses
for our conversation–has beautiful blue eyes.
We also learned that he happens to be Christian and attends Calvary Chapel Monterey. He showed genuine
Christian humility–and his name happens to be Justin Humble! Thank you to Justin for being a good steward of the earth
by reducing carbon emissions every time he bikes
for transportation! BTW, we were able to give him a heads up about a beautiful, peaceful rest stop for people out biking or walking nearby – the Jay Bartow Memorial Garden at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Eldorado, Monterey. Garden details in new post: https://bikemonterey.org/people-who-bike-justin-humble.html

"My mom didn’t live in a bubble; she had not escaped subliminal toxic messaging. It was the #bicycling, with its demands for physical vitality, the uncertainty of every ride, the grit on the uphill, the inherent wheeeeee aspect of fun on the downhill — all powerful proof of that messaging’s mendacity."
