No, really. I always learn things &amp; it is way better than a real disaster.<br>2) Bought tickets for us to visit friends &amp; family in Germany and France when the school year ends. (The world is swirling so splurged on changeable tickets.)<br>3) Finished watching <a href="https://mas.to/tags/TheResidence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TheResidence</span></a> with my spouse. Good fluff. Great actors, engaging writing, less need for character development (which we prefer usually) when everyone hams it all the way up for fun.</p>
Flippin' 'eck, Tucker!<p>Available now on Netflix: "The Residence".</p><p>I think the writers started with the simple pitch "What if Sherlock Holmes was alive in 2025 and was asked to solve a murder at the White House". And then out of that basic concept they've created a fast-moving, witty, clever TV series.</p><p>And it's a US political timeline that's a million times better than the one we live in.</p><p>Give it a go if you're looking for some funny escapism.</p><p><a href="https://social.chatty.monster/tags/TheResidence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TheResidence</span></a></p>
Trevor Burrows<p>Been watching <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/TheResidence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TheResidence</span></a> and it's really good so far but the biggest takeaway is MORE JANE CURTIN PLEASE</p>
Eugene Alvin Villar 🇵🇭<p>I’m currently watching <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/TheResidence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TheResidence</span></a> on Netflix and I was instantly captivated by the production design. So I’m really glad the producers have put out this BTS video because I would otherwise be left wondering how they recreated the <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/WhiteHouse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WhiteHouse</span></a>.</p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/PNXVWIl3bkY" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/PNXVWIl3bkY</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/television" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>television</span></a> <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/TVShows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TVShows</span></a> <a href="https://en.osm.town/tags/Shondaland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Shondaland</span></a></p>
Alexander Dyas<p>Just finished The Residence on Netflix. Superb, brilliant. The writing, the cast, the visuals, the suspense, the comic timing.</p><p>Uzo Aduba particularly, I’m really looking forward to seeing what else she’s going to do, loving her work.</p><p>And something I really wasn’t expecting, the relevance to the current situation, see through to the end.</p><p><a href="https://m.imdb.com/title/tt8740614/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">m.imdb.com/title/tt8740614/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/theresidence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>theresidence</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/currentlywatching" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>currentlywatching</span></a></p>

#Watching #TheResidence (netflix) 8 episodes

this was soooooo good. 12 out of 10.
not usually a great fan of whodunnits, and the british drawing room “reveal” genre where the mystery is explained is a bit of a yawn (that’s just a personal thing, not a declaration that it is “wrong” to tell stories this way.)

any-hoo — The Residence is about the section of the White House where family/ friends/ hangers on of the US president live.
When somebody dies there, Cordelia Cupp, the world’s best detective, is called in to solve the mystery. it’s a bit of a US version of upstairs downstairs.

Cordelia is played by #UzoAduba, who has always had an expressive face, and the ability to deliver wordy dialogue with clarity and conviction — and there is a LOT of dialogue. The review in BlackGirlNerd described it as <comedic tennis>, and that’s an apt description. There are some amusing rallies.

“Back in the day” movies like Adam’s Rib (1949) were very wordy, because a lot of movies were “radio with pictures”. Then came an era of “show don’t tell”. The Residence is very “show AND tell”. Friend watched it with her ears while playing dice and scrabble on her ipad and missed a lot of visual humour.

It’s a treat to watch, and I must say a lot of care and imagination has gone into bringing this to life. The residence itself is almost a character in the story — we often have a “doll’s house view” so we get a sense of place and location, and sometimes a bird’s eye view (cordelia likes birds). There is even a gingerbread house version that features in the story. The visual humour owes a great deal to some excellent editing, and what must have been extra hours setting up to shoot scenes to show multiple points of view.

sometimes we get glimpses of a character’s character by looking at them in their own milieu; and there is a truly delightful scene where cordelia is with her young nephew and we get to observe him being a young boy “like nobody’s watching”

Jane Curtin has fun as the president’s mother in law.

the president’s brother in law is an annoying anus as a character but the only character that’s annoying to watch, (bit of a stock US character)
running gags about australia, forgiveable because of the president’s brother in law being such a stereotype of USian, the australian prime minister is played by julian mcmahon, (son of sir william 😉, for old farts like me who remember him), and kylie Minogue is there

the story is really well constructed. mostly i enjoyed it because it was different.

I've just watched the first episode of The Residence, and ok. I get the hype.

First of all, Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes) plays the lead, and she and Natasha Lyonne were the best part of Orange is the New Black, so I squealed when I recognized her.

Second, I'm a huge sucker for the gimmicky cinematography. Love the architectural shots.

The Residence, delightful new mystery series

The Residence stars Uzo Aduba as a new sleuth who joins a pantheon of favorite sleuths such as Miss Marple, Sherlock Holmes, and Benoit Blanc. As the world's greatest detective, she gets called to the White House to solve a seemingly unsolvable murder – or was it a suicide? […]

The Residence (Netflix)

To most people this movie is a murder mystery following the "autistic savant detective" trope.

To me, this movie is a sophisticated, nuanced and comprehensive presentation of autistic traits in many roles. Each scene, each character only builds on previous nuances.

Allistic people are presented as being completely baffled by an autistic world they cannot understand.

A masterpiece.
