The onus is on us all (especially for many of us in the #fediverse) to search for the truth during #AusElection25 and call out the lies, gaslighting and biased propaganda. We owe it to ourselves to know whom and what we will be voting for. The only way lowly peeps like me can do this is by supporting those truth-tellers with a heavier clout than I and #IndependentJournalism is where we mostly find out much of the truth behind our politician’s machinations. I cannot support all independent news platforms, just a couple. But if everyone of us supported just one independent news outlet (like we support our Masto Instances I hope…), the likes of #Murdoch and #Stokes would be that much less successful in brain washing the Austalian electorate by giving ‘air’ to political liars.

This article from the Australian news site "Crikey" touches on much more than just current goings on in the run up to the Australian election. The author argues that the Murdoch news empire is being cannibalized by the forces Murdoch himself helped unleash, and that this empire is in decline not just in Australia but in the US and the UK too.

Much to think about here. I wonder whether similar forces are at work in countries beyond the English speaking world where moguls have used media power to push their right wing agendas; Bolloré and the late and unlamented ( at least by me) Berlusconi come to mind.

2025 election: The Murdoch media no longer matters

Crikey · Finally, an election where Murdoch doesn’t matter — and it’s News Corp’s own faultBy Christopher Warren

Greg Jericho:
“The Albanese government has often – and rightly – been criticised for lacking policy boldness in areas such as climate change and the need to address inequality and poverty through measures such as increasing Jobseeker. But with regards to industrial relations, the government has shown that bold policy is not just possible, but also successful.”

Not going to see this sort of endorsement in #Murdoch or #Stokes propaganda.

A reminder why you shouldn’t vote for either major party. They have been shafting us for years at the behest of foreign influencers and large orgs and we have been letting them. My biggest fear is they are still reading the #murdoch bible to make decisions in relation to Trump #labor #lnp.

FFS your own dad helped fuck things up (to be fair she does seem to realise that albeit belatedly, whole family is in Court squabbling over money!). And none of these execs said anything when it started going pear shaped 30 years ago..

“ I won't be gaslit over Trump. If you suck up to him, you will get more bullying — Malcolm Turnbull(The Sydney Morning Herald): I was not surprised to see the News Corp publications gleefully adopting Trump's abuse and claiming that I had “torpedoed” any hopes of securing an exemption from steel and aluminium tariffs. It has always been most unlikely that Australia will secure an exemption this time. It was hard enough in 2018 and all the signals from the administration are that the tariffs will be applied across the board.

And it perhaps never occurred to the team at News Corp's Holt Street HQ in Sydney that it is utterly bizarre that the unremarkable comments of a former prime minister would cause the US to decide not to exempt Australia from tariffs. Not a word of criticism of Trump, of course!

I was amused to reflect on the mental stress this episode was causing our friends at News Corp. Such a target-rich environment! They can blame me for the tariffs, or Kevin Rudd, or Anthony Albanese. Surely they can work out a formula where it's the fault of all three — but never, ever the fault of Donald Trump!”

Well worth a read!

The WSJ is Fox News. The Wall Street Journal, like Fox News, is owned by global fascist billionaire Murdoch, with multiple communication and news systems across the globe.

The Wall Street Journal is not REPORTING a fascist takeover, it is arranging a fascist takeover.
