#EU commission proposes 25% counter-#tariffs on some #US imports, document shows

The European Commission proposed counter-tariffs of 25% on a range of US goods on Monday in response to #Trump's tariffs on #steel & #aluminium, a document seen by Reuters showed.

The tariffs on some goods will come into effect May 16 & other later in the year, on Dec 1.

I was more surprised to learn that both the Chinese bought the blast furnaces and they hadn't already closed down (perhaps there is a case to renationalise this industry? Steel is a vital material and we shouldn't be so dependent on importing it in an increasingly uncertain world..)
