#Comcast didn't get a court order to support the #DMCA request they sent Linode regarding my blog post, because it was entirely bogus and they knew it. They were just hoping I either didn't know my rights or wouldn't take the time to file a counter-notice.
Well, I did, and the required waiting period has elapsed, so I've republished the post they tried to bully me into taking down.

that amounts to a
🔥“true free-speech emergency”, media experts have warned,
as the Federal Communications Commission recently launched an #investigation into a series of media organizations, including the owner of NBC News.
The FCC, led by Donald Trump appointee and Project 2025 author #Brendan #Carr, has ordered
💥investigations into #NPR and #PBS in the first month since Trump took office,
while also scrutinizing a #CBS News interview and a San Francisco radio station.
In a letter to #Comcast, which owns NBC News, Carr said he had asked the FCC’s enforcement bureau to “open an investigation” into the corporation, stating:
“I am concerned that Comcast and NBCUniversal may be promoting invidious forms of #DEI in a manner that does not comply with FCC regulations.”

The support folks at Linode / Akamai kindly gave me a brief tutorial on how to handle a bogus #DMCA takedown notice. They aren't allowed to decide themselves that the notice is bogus. I have to unpublish the blog posting and then file a counter-notice with Linode (which I've now done), which they then send to the complainant. Then I can republish the blog posting in 2 weeks if I haven't been served with a lawsuit by then.

For the record:
* They emailed me the same request again on January 1, 2025. I once again told them to pound sand.
* This morning they escalated by filing a #DMCA takedown request with #Linode, my hosting provider. Email addresses can't be copyrighted, so the request is totally bogus. Linode forwarded it to me and demanded that I take action rather than reading it carefully enough to determine that it's bogus. I just wrote back to them and told them it is. We'll see what happens.

“Promoting invidious forms of discrimination cannot be squared w/any reasonable interpretation of federal #law,” he wrote. Carr asked the #media company to provide “an accounting of #Comcast’s & #NBCUniversal’s #DEI initiatives, preferences, mandates, policies, programs, & activities.”

In a statement, Comcast said the company will cooperate w/the FCC’s investigation. “For decades, our company has been built on a foundation of integrity & respect for all of our employees & customers.”

In a letter sent to #Comcast CEO Brian Roberts on Tues, Carr wrote that the #FCC’s enforcement bureau will probe whether the company was “promoting invidious forms of discrimination in violation of FCC regulations & civil rights laws” by prioritizing diversity, equity & inclusion (#DEI) initiatives. Carr said he will ensure that #media companies are doing away w/such DEI efforts, which were targeted in an #ExecutiveOrder signed by #Trump last month.

#NBC, #ABC, #CBS, #PBS, #NPR & #KCBS radio all have one thing in common: They’re under scrutiny from the #FCC, which is now being led by #BrendanCarr, a #Republican who has praised #Trump as a leader in combating *bias* in the #media.

#NBCUniversal & its parent company, #Comcast, were the latest media companies to receive word of an investigation by the FCC.

#Comcast #Xfinity is offering 2Gbps down/300 Mbps up cable internet for $10 less than what I paid for 1 Gbps down. The upgrade was instantaneous.

Check to see if you have better deals where you live.

Oh, and do update your switches and network interfaces to Multigig-capable ones. You can get at least 2.5 Gbps over existing Cat5 cables.
