I think the most terrifying aspect of what is happening here is how the far right/“Christian” base is calling empathy a “sin”. There are churches across the Deep South that are preaching less empathy. Some say Jesus was wrong to have empathy for his fellow man. Some hardliners are saying empathy should be outlawed. It’s insanity (how the hell do you ban a part of being human?), but it’s also horrific in its goal, which is to turn most of us into hardcore sadists who will not object to all the awful things they have in store for us. And before you say “that will never happen”, take a look at the things that have happened you never thought would . It can happen if we let it. #uspolitics
