Went to see #Mickey17 today. Really, really good film. Very much enjoyed the performances and the story. Enjoyed is a strange word, but you know what I mean. High on my nominations list for next year's #HugoAwards for sure.

It’s #springBreak! I was invited to a celebratory pau hana (after work gathering) for helping with campus accreditation. And a classmate is visiting from Kauai, so I was invited to another pau hana. I still gotta work my full time job. I’m thankful people invite me out. When it rains it pours. I had also wanted to see #Mickey17 + #Novocaine but probably can’t with these dinners. Lately, I want to quit the PhD so I can have more free time... i am presenting at a conference in April. #phdlife

So MICKEY 17.... what can I say.
It's STARSHIP TROOPERS meets GROUNDHOG DAY, but it's not as funny or interesting as either of those films. And the tone of "dark humor" and "farce," like with DON'T LOOK UP, gets old fast. Oh, and it's too long.
Other than that, not worth seeing for $14 in a cinema.
Other than that, well, I got nothing.

I'm halfway through his new novel The Fourth Consort and, fuck me, it's brilliant.
His writing reminds me of Vonnegut, Kage Baker, Justina Robson, MR Carey, Joe Haldeman, his prose has that poetry.
War in #Mickey17: Dass dieser Film überhaupt produziert worden ist, ist die vielleicht noch größere Obskurität als seine Handlung. Die Raumfahrtgeschichte ist keine echte Komödie, auf keinen Fall ein Actionfilm, relativ viel Drama und dabei doch zu viel Komödie. Schwer, den Film irgendwie in Kategorien zu zwingen. Fühlte sich oft wie ein Genrestoff an, der es Ende der 90er ins Kino geschafft hätte, so à la Being John Malkovich.
Mutig, so was wieder zu wagen.

Le he dado 4 estrellas, pero no porque sea buena, sino porque el personaje de Mickey se te queda grabado bastante tiempo. Es lo único realmente bueno que tiene esta película: las reflexiones del protagonista y su excelentísima interpretación por parte de Robert Pattinson. El resto no es más que unos cuantos personajes exagerados, subtramas que ni aportan ni llegan a ningún sitio y metraje de relleno.
Una pena, porque la historia daba para un guion mucho más interesante.

Maybe I was expecting philosophical dilemmas and world-building akin to the Blade Runner films, but MICKEY 17 still provided a strong narrative that delivers the usual Bong Joon-ho themes. It might not be mind-blowing, but it's still entertaining, bold, and hilarious. #mickey17
#Mickey17 was a really fun movie. I enjoyed small details that made it better than I expected.
Alors, je sors de voir #Mickey17, et j'ai bien aimé. Quelques faiblesses de temps à autres, certes, mais j'en retiens surtout des moments... biologiques... enthousiastes qui s'imbriquent à d'autres plus subtils voire à l'occasion profonds.
Bien que tiré d'un roman, j'ai eu le sentiment d'une (bonne) adaptation d'une (bonne) nouvelle, qui ne fait pas dans l'intello mais qui n'oublie pas de faire réfléchir. Un très bon moment, donc.
Mais bon, je savais pouvoir faire confiance à @Laird_Fumble

If I had a nickel for every time I saw a scifi movie set in a frigid environment, rife with themes of class struggle, featuring a well known actor who has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe wearing prosthetic teeth to play a cartoonishly over the top villian, and directed by Bong Joon Ho, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's odd that it should happen twice.
