Looking along Merewether Beach northwards to Bar Beach headland on a sunny morning. Long stretch of light biscuit coloured sand and blue water with a fringe of white as it breaks on the beach. There is a couple walking along the beach, someone using an outdoor beach shower, and a handful of others.

Levi Epenetos surfing the quarter final of WSL Cape Town Pro 2025.

The shot has a lot of contrast and nice texture on the water from being backlit / sidelit by the sun. It was still bright enough to shoot with 1/1000s in order to capture the spray and hectic movements. Surfing is a quick sport. Chose a larger aperture because I wanted detail on the face of the wave and the spray. Auto ISO to keep my time and aperture, Image stabiliser on, AF on servo mode and Zone AF.

Three swimmers in close to the beach. A surfer riding a wave further out (technically shouldn't be in the swimming area between the flags). Another surfer on the right paddling out. Blue green water with a wave swelling up but not quite breaking near the swimmers. A lot more churning white where the surfer is - he's probably close to bailing out at this point.
