Does anyone know if there is a way for #VLC Media Player to retain #playlist data after closing the program? I had a crash today, and recreating my playlist was hard. I have tried saving to an XSPF playlist file, but these don't update with new entries (they seem to be read-only) If the feature doesn't exist, I am willing to put aside some money to send to VideoLAN to have it as a feature on Linux and other platforms.
@rmondello I think this is possible in desktop #VLC using interactive zoom.
Die #Multicast streams im @ffhl sind jetzt zusätzlich auch mit dem @videolan v3 unter "Local Netzwork -> Network streams (SAP)" find- und abspielbar. Nur die mit "(v4)" markierten brauchen noch den #VLC v4/nightly. Den v4 nightly zum Laufen zu bekommen, schien bei vielen noch eine zu große Hürde zu sein. Würde mich sehr über Feedback freuen, ob es jetzt auch bei anderen geht im @ffhl geht.

Trying to rip my Parks & Recreation box set as the family wants to play it without digging up the DVDs, but the copy protection (?) is doing weird things to the Title numbers on season three--what I see with the disc in #VLC is different than what #HandBrake sees. Would love to figure this out without "rip 'em all, let Jon sort 'em out" as my methodology.
Well, until this morning two of my #Chromecast Audios were still working with noncommercial apps like #VLC and #SomaFM, since they don't ask the devices to authenticate. But today those have dropped off the network as well.
A bit more looking at #VLC documentation reveals that it's very thin for such a ubiquitous and long-lived project.
It's bizarre that the "playlist" word itself is the first item you see, in the most prominent position in the app, yet the word is almost totally missing from the documentation. Searching gives you only three hits, all down in the weeds of disk paths and inner workings.
All the documentation of making and managing playlists is 3rd party sites on the web.
On my todo list is to go file an issue with the #VLC project about how stale links for streaming sources fail catastrophically.
I like to have a playlist of favourite streaming radio sources, but when they become invalid VLC fails terribly, spewing garbage characters and out-of-control pop-ups etc.
Maybe it should be a project to contribute (some day) if I could find a few hours a week to get involved. It's a great tool and I really hope it would keep improving.
Just found out I can stream videos from #Kodi (on the #RaspberryPi 4) to my #Android phone using the #Kore remote and #VLC (both on #FDroid). No need to turn the projector on to watch things from our local video library!
Love it when #FLOSS solutions work together flawlessly like this.

The VLC Lunar Time Capsule program will hitch a ride on Griffin, the Lander from NASA's Artemis program. You'll need to submit your video by Feb 28th 2025 though.
The capsule will also include 1000 classic movies picked by the team at VLC
