@cryptadamist

There is something absolutely perfect about this imbecilic Trump regime using AI and fucking everything up even worse than they would have if they'd just used a pencil and a calculator. DOGE boys no doubt involved.

Just wait until they implement their AI generated code on Social Security. Honestly, if I was one of these big AI-investing companies I'd try to save the brand by telling them to stop using it.

Hahaha.

eBay recently decided to start using personal account data to train AI models. You can Opt Out in the "My eBay > Account > Al development and training preferences" page. They say the choice is for residents of particular countries, but it appears anyone can toggle the setting off.

#Apple urged to withdraw 'out of control' #AI news alerts

Zoe Kleinman, Liv McMahon and Natalie Sherman, January 7, 2025

"Apple is facing fresh calls to withdraw its controversial artificial intelligence (AI) feature that has generated inaccurate news alerts on its latest iPhones.

"The product is meant to summarise breaking news notifications but has in some instances invented entirely false claims.

"The BBC first complained to the tech giant about its journalism being misrepresented in December but Apple did not respond until Monday this week, when it said it was working to clarify that summaries were AI-generated.

"Alan Rusbridger, the former editor of the Guardian, told the BBC Apple needed to go further and pull a product he said was 'clearly not ready.'

"Mr Rusbridger, who also sits on #Meta's Oversight Board that reviews appeals of the company's content moderation decisions, added the technology was 'out of control' and posed a considerable misinformation risk."

#AI costs American #Renters over $3.6 billion annually, according to new report
Judd Legum
Jan 06, 2025

"The property management software used by many #corporate #landlords, #RealPage, is deploying AI to artificially inflate rental prices in the United States by more than $3.6 billion annually, according to a new report by the White House Council of Economic Advisers (CEA).

"RealPage, owned by the private equity firm Thoma Bravo, includes a tool called "AI Revenue Management" that provides recommendations for rental prices based on data from competitors. The feature, according to the CEA, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and class action lawsuits, facilitates 'price coordination.' It allows individual landlords to 'act as if they are a single dominant landlord, and use their collective market power to increase profits by setting higher prices.'"

Popular Information · AI costs American renters over $3.6 billion annually, according to new reportBy Judd Legum

I have a Ph.D. in physics and I'm a teacher. A large portion of the jobs I see available on LinkedIn and Indeed these days are for hourly work feeding training data to AIs.

AI was supposed to take our jobs, but now instead we'll all be working *for* the AIs.

Wierd things I've found today:
www.ijesi.org/papers/Vol(6)12/Version-5/D0612053440.pdf
This completely computer generated paper from 2017 that is from a "peer reviewed" journal and fails to even create complete sentences in many cases.

What's odd is that I think even the names are pulled form existing papers, so this wasn't done to push one particular author or pad someone's resume. What's even odder is that not even the abstract makes sense--was it too much to ask the journal to skim that one paragraph?

Totally get this. The whole Ai racket is predicated on undermining the urge to question.

Any legitimate concerns are just lost on the vast majority of people who I hear extolling it.

Its weaknesses are masked by its ‘simplicity’.

We are being collectively trained to accept: “sounds legit”

Many years ago, I had a gig at a large web agency, designing the interface for a huge multinational.

I’d become accustomed to sketching ideas directly onto A3 pads, to make it easy to capture & communicate ideas - quickly.

People used to stare at me in horror when they saw a pen.

The same people who thought ‘brainstorming’ was typing quotes into Google.

With AI, we arrive at a solutions, with no fucking idea how we got there.
