Everybody is talking about the risks of US clouds in the new geopolitical climate.

But the other huge looming issue is that three US vendors can lock us out of 99% of the client devices (or backdoor them or whatever).

We could have that warm and fuzzy Europe-cloud, but we wouldn't be able to use it meaningfully.

Installing a new OS on a phone has always been a daunting task! I've done it a few times, but always dreaded it.

So I'm really happy that @e_mydata has created an installer that seems like it could actually be used by most people!

It looks like a simple step-by-step GUI process. Except there's a warning at the start stating "Before proceeding with the installation, verify if the latest Android firmware is available for your device." and I don't know what that means or how to check

Interesting!
I'm pretty used to using #nextcloud for contact and calendar sync with #davx5 on android.

/e/OS comes with its own integration in the "Accounts" Settings.
You can just add your own nextcloud URL and username/password and it automatically syncs contacts, calendars and also photos etc, which is configurable, which is pretty neat!

Since this is usually coupled with #murena's cloud offering, it shows as "Free Plan" and provides an "Upgrade" button

After asking for help this morning and getting several answers, I discovered today:
- @Fairphone the name says it all, and they support alternative mobile OS with instructions on their own website.
- @murena really nice to see folks shipping a phone with /e/OS (@e_mydata), a fully "deGoogled" mobile ecosystem.
- @GrapheneOS really interesting alternative OS for several Google phones.
- backmarket.com useful not only for refurbished phones, but also for other electronic devices.

Not to mention the help I've got on specific questions from people I don't know.

The Fediverse rocks!
