Following Val Kilmer’s death, I read that every geek should watch Real Genius, and that it is an underrated film. Having finally seen it now, to be honest, I think it is a dated, predictable, typical light-hearted 1980s goofball comedy that is too lengthy and at times boring. That doesn’t mean I didn’t like it, because I loved the mid-1980s atmosphere, wardrobes and overall sense of carelessness oozing from Real Genius. I got thinking about "The Tower That Ate People" because of what is turning into my #SnoopListens thread¹ and the only reason I know of this song and really Peter Gabriel's solo work is because this song (quite briefly!) features in RED PLANET, a #ValKilmer film.

People are rightfully gushing about REAL GENIUS and BATMAN and TOP GUN all the other great movies he was in, but I guess RED PLANET is where I'm at right now. Might spin it up for some company as I slog through some more debugging.

I can't find a clip of it online, but there's a bit where the song is playing and Val Kilmer is jamming out doing his "space janitor" thing. It's great.

Overall a really entertaining movie with a star-studded cast and a plot that is stupid, but not TOO stupid.
