Updated my to Ubuntu 24.10. So far, so good. The usual "me no want Snap Firefox gordammit" dance and a few snags around 3rd party package sources, but that's it.

I'm still thinking about switching to Fedora, as it seems to be even better supported by , but I have much more experience with the Debian/Ubuntu ecosystem...

Oh, and I finally ordered the new screen as I want the higher resolution and also mine is subtly damaged, not sure what or when that happened.

@halfbyte Living with the same dilemma (re: choices in software management by Canonical aka fuck Snaps), also way too deep into Debian/Ubuntu to really consider switching to a RPM-based distribution.

The newer screens are really worth their money, especially since you finally get a properly HiDPI-scaled interface (if it weren't for Electron-based apps 🙄)

@halfbyte PS: If anything around Firefox doesn't work as expected (for me it was the USB keys not working correctly and some other stuff), AppArmor has switched to "deny-by-default" since 24.10 and it wreaked havoc on my setup. Here's a "fix" for Firefox: github.com/moritzheiber/laptop

@moritz @halfbyte Debian Testing is a pretty good replacement for Ubuntu imho 😀

@moonglum @moritz @halfbyte isn't the latter roughly the former with the serial number filed off?

@moonglum @halfbyte Problem with that is that it’s not supported in the corporate environment I use the laptop in (mainly: Microsoft Intune, the EDR we‘re using) .. that would only (ever) be Ubuntu or Fedora 🙃

@moritz @halfbyte Um, okay, then I don‘t have any advise 😅

@moonglum install ubuntu, use it as launcher into a docker container with debian testing ;)

@halfbyte having to rely on third parties was what broke the last straw for me and Ubuntu.

@halfbyte I also migrated to Fedora while I never used that ecosystem before.
However, it was straightforward and just works for me.

@halfbyte Always recommending @UniversalBlue ! Fedora atomic with all the nice things included! Check it out!
