"In times of chaos and fear, purposeful action is power" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Act boldly. Fear feeds on hesitation.

Think about this moment. Confidence is fragile. Every headline screams volatility.

And just like that, a wave of fear rolls in—bringing hesitation, doubt, and paralysis.

Are you letting the fear freeze your future?

Have you become the deer in the headlights?

But here’s the truth: the antidote to anxiety is action.

While others freeze, you can move.

While some debate what might go wrong, you can start building what could go right.

While people wait for signs an upturn, you can create your own little upturn, simply by acting.

Fear loves hesitation. It grows stronger when you pause, wait, scroll endlessly, or convince yourself that “now isn’t the time.” It thrives in your indecision, matures in the recesses of your uncertainty, and becomes a cancer in your inaction.

But bold action—no matter how small—immediately puts you back in the driver’s seat. It shifts your mindset from 'overwhelmed' to 'engaged.' It puts you in control. It gets you out of your doom cycle. It brings you back from focusing on where you are - to building momentum for where you could be.

You don’t have to launch a moonshot to make a difference. You don't need some huge stretch goal. You don't need to be chasing some grand vision. You just have to move:

Learn something new.

Start that project.

Test the idea.

Build the prototype.

Say yes.

Momentum beats perfection. Progress quiets panic. Action beats fear.
We are not victims of the future. We are its architects—if we choose to be.

So when the uncertainty rises, meet it with motion.

When fear whispers “not yet,” answer back: “Watch me.”

Because the future doesn’t wait.

And neither should you.

What are you waiting for?

Futurist Jim Carroll knows that action is the antitode to every moment of volatility.

>> #Brexit gave #UK citizens an education in why being a member of the EU was in fact a good thing. I fear that #Trump and #DOGE are giving #US citizens a similar lesson in the benefits of federal government and rule of law by dismantling them piece by piece.

I #hope, not #fear.

And let the lesson be 2-way. #Oligarchs should learn that they need us too. By starving and killing us, they only diminish the market for whatever they try to sell.

Many clouds have a silver lining 😉

Deception, Obfuscation & Misdirection

This is a concatenation of posts I originally made in 2016-2017--even more relevant today...

Most are familiar with the concept of #FUD—short for #Fear, #Uncertainty & #Doubt. It summarizes a strategy often used in marketing and political propaganda. Its effects are pernicious, divisive and lead to exploitation. Examples abound. Fear is a strong motivator! To resist FUD one must understand how it is practiced using the principles of #Deception, #Obfuscation and #Misdirection.

The use of #prisoners for #propaganda is as old as war itself. But there are a few recent examples you may recall. ISIS made extensive use of videos & pictures of imprisonment & execution. The Viet Cong & North Vietnamese alternated their approach. Sometimes they used American POWs as props to suggest that all was well in their camps & prisoners were being treated properly. (They were not.) Other times, they used images of American prisoners as tools to spread #fear.…

A lot of what people are calling #FOMO is actually something else.

When you go to bed and within 5 seconds of not falling asleep you grab your phone for some light entertainment, thats not fear of missing out!

Its FOT - fear of thinking.

You fear that thinking will make you feel sad about the world and your part in it.

#mindfulness doesn't teach you to stop thinking. It teaches you to stop fearing your thoughts, to stop judging your emotions and to turn your negative feelings into positive actions.
Empowerment is the only antidot for powerlessness.

Miss out on the distractions and concentrate on solutions.

Under a draft of agreement between #IRS and #ICE, the tax agency would verify whether #immigration officials had the right home address for people who have been ordered to leave the United States, according to a copy of the document viewed by The New York Times. #humanrights #civilliberties #taxes #Tens of millions of workers are failing to file tax returns in fear of #deportation #fascism #fear #trump #maga #GOP #privacy

These days, talking to my partner, we discussed why many immigrants and refugees, in several situations, seem to have a more fearless attitude than those who grew up in a country like Germany. Few understand the extent of our constant contact with violence and how it shapes our perception of the world - whether as individuals or in our relationships with our families and friends. Perhaps they only know the surface of what it's like to live in such an unequal society, where this reality is imposed on us from birth. And in the end, people from countries like ours will always be reduced to stereotypes. And this is true for all of us who grew up in the global south, regardless of social class and possible differences in opportunity.
