22 years already since I released my first album of weird, dark, experimental #electronicmusic under the name 'cloudy, with occasional rain'. Made using a "borrowed" copy of #fruityloops, a very cheap computer mic, and featuring some questionable guitar work.

But this was a fun one. No real idea what I was doing. I'd set out to do an #industrialmusic project a la #skinnypuppy, #feindflug, etc. But ended up with something very unlike that.

I was talking with a friend about #industrialMusic. He was under the impression it is thumping beats and Rammstein rock. I played him #Coil Musick To Play In The Dark. Paraphrasing the conversation:

“This is industrial??”

“These guys practically created the term. So almost by definition, yes”

Beautiful album. Definitely worth remembering that #industrial was about experimentation, not falling the path of the music industry (the ‘industrial’ term was an ironic take). Not formulaic bangers.

XTRMNTR, the 6th album by Primal Scream was released 25 years ago today on January 31, 2000. The band took a more angry, political stance on the album attacking government, police and multinational corporations with a more aggressive tone featuring harsh , noisy, electronic sounds reminiscent of Industrial Music.

Singer Bobby Gillespie has remained an outspoken supporter of the liberation of Palestine. 🇵🇸
