@e_wann_a@mathstodon.xyz Healthcare for your pet is just as bad as healthcare for yourself, in America, if not worse.

Healthcare for a person, your health insurance usually pays their part with you paying a copay. However, healthcare for a pet, expects you to pay the full price up front, and then manually submit a claim to be reimbursed, at which time you learn if they will approve your claim, and how much money you may (or may not) get back. To make matters worse, some places will charge you more if they know you have insurance.

Insurance in the United States really does appear to be a scam.

I want to give a shout-out to #Trupanion.
I've had my nit-picky complaints with them in the past, pretty much all of which involved a poor online experience.
But their online experience isn't dramatically worse than anyone else's, and in my experience, when you look past that they are EXCELLENT.
Their premiums are reasonable, and they pay out claims quickly, no muss, no fuss.
As long as you understand what they do and don't cover, you will not be disappointed.

"One of the biggest issues I have when recommending a policy for people is just not knowing what that insurance company is going to do with their prices. In the next year. In the next five years. I just don't know, and I really wish I did," [said Angell Animal Medical Center's Licensed Pet Insurance Coordinator, Harrison Stenson]."

One of our cats has diabetes. We submitt claims for it to our #TruPanion #PetInsurance. Each time they process a claim they send an email saying we haven't yet hit our deductible and the attached PDF shows what it is and how close we are to hitting it. The attachment doesn't actually have any of that info.
These are automated emails, so every email they send out says that it has information it doesn't actually have.
How do they not notice this and fix it? It's ridiculous.

I had to file a #PetInsurance claim with #Trupanion. The entire experience was terrible, tons of #UX failures culminating with the claim failing to submit, i.e., all the time I spent filling out the claim on-line was wasted, and I ended up having to download the claim PDF, fill it out in Journal++, and email it and the invoice.
I tried the online form in both Firefox and Chrome, no dice.
It's almost like they want to make it _seem_ easy to submit claims while it's actually hard. 🤔

Would tooters who have experience with pet insurance in the USA, all the way through a claim, please give me your insurer recommendations (or your nonrecommendations)?

I do know that pre-existing conditions matter and vet records will be checked. I'm just looking for dependable companies. Thanks.

Pic for attention of Bodie, who despite appearances is not in need of anything at this moment. Well maybe a hair trim.

Speaking of Pet Insurance, my husband's job has a contract with Nationwide Pet Insurance. Basically I'm trying to figure out if it makes most sense to go with them, since we get a discount through his job, or through another company that may be better. I have an 8-year-old boy cat, a 4-year-old girl cat, and am about to adopt a 10 week old male kitten. What are y'all's experience? #Pets #PetInsurance #Cats

Looking for recommendations for #PetInsurance companies in the UK that will cover pre-existing conditions.

RSPCA Insurance has decided to class my cat's asthma as a pre-existing condition - even though it was just spotted recently - because I brought him to the vet a year ago with a respiratory infection. He'd had cat flu just before I'd adopted him and was a bit congested at the time. 😑
